Network Business and Policy Area
globe
This area aims to consider social institutions and policies generated by infocommunication and multimedia.
The objective of this area is to help students conduct interdisciplinary and professional research primarily on interrelation of rapidly innovated socioeconomic aspects of info-telecommunication with aspects of social institutions and policies. Traditional socio-economic theory tends to regard information and telecommunication as given exogenous condition. Thus, the scope of research has been preoccupied with abstract debate such as IT/digital innovation and productivity, or asymmetric information between governments, corporations, financial organizations, individuals, households and investors. However, information and telecommunication are deeply related to individual economic activities in vivid and visible ways at present.
While acting in accordance with international major theses and domestic research outcomes, students are required to tackle challenges arising from efforts to introduce info-telecommunication innovation into economic society. Specifically, the students are required to explore the following issues:
1) Dissemination and evaluation of newly implemented IT from interdisciplinary perspectives, international standardization, information-oriented societies in urban and rural areas, cyber journalism, etc. 2) Price issues and intellectual property based on economic theory, regulations and competitions pertaining to electronic commerce, and entrepreneurial management, and corporate structure ; and 3) Issues related to institutions and policies, with a focus on monetary economy. In order to achieve these objectives, it is necessary for the students to come into contact with people on the frontline of their fields and to promote education research covering field surveys and communication networking.
