Question How can I estimate the living expenses for one year, excluding tuition and fees?
Answer For reference, Waseda University has given rough figures for annual living expenses to international students who plan to study or have started to study here in Japan:

Listed below are the costs we expect international students to encounter during the academic year.
  • Rent 50,000 - 100.000 JPY per month
  • Living cost (Utility charges, food, transportation, etc. excl. Rent) 50,000 - 70,000 JPY per month
  • Other expenses (Medical cost, subscription of newspapers, etc.) 50,000 - 150,000 JPY per year
Estimated total: 2,190,000 JPY at most per year
US $ 18,250.00 (The figure is converted at 120 yen to a dollar)

Question What services does Waseda University provide to help international students find in or off-campus housing?
Answer We are sorry to say that GITS does not introduce any accommodations or apartments to international students.

Question I am an international student and would like to leave Japan during holidays.
Answer Please apply for a re-entry permit at the Immigration Bureau.
You must submit an application for re-entry to the Immigration Bureau along with
  • Alien registration card
  • Passport
  • Student ID card
  • Three-thousand yen for commission fee.

Question I would like to use a PC and the Internet.
Answer All students are eligible to obtain a Waseda-Net address. With this e-mail address, various services on the Internet are available.
