This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Waseda University international e-Government Rankings. Aside from the annual rankings, the research group also looked back on the past 5 years and studied the evolution of e-Government since the research initially conducted. This year, to enhance the research, changes were made on the ranking process to be able to reflect the current times and best capture on the status of e-Government around the world. This study also provides an insight into ongoing trends and developing trends in e-Government. This year's study can be best described by the theme "Review and Foresight".

Using a comprehensive set of parameters in order to benchmark the development of e-Government in selected countries in the world, the outcome of this research compares the real situation of e-Government in a given country with an "ideal" e-Government situation.

The Waseda University International e-Government Ranking continues to be the main e-Government benchmarking initiative in the Asian Region. The results will be continuously cited by both governmental agencies and mass media as well as research institutions in the world.
